What's Included

Packed in, set up, packed out

You bring your tag and your kit. We bring the stock, the camp, the unit intel, and the muscle for pack-out.

01

Camp Set & Struck

We pack in a wall-tent or spike camp on scouted ground, set it up with a stove and cots, and strike it when your hunt is done. You arrive to a ready camp deep in good country.

02

Pack-In & Pack-Out by Stock

Our horses and mules carry you and your gear miles back into country you couldn't reach with a daypack — and pack your animal back out when you connect.

03

Unit & Area Intel

You hunt self-guided, but you don't go in blind. We hand you our scouting on the unit — bedding areas, water, wallows, and how the elk have been moving.

04

Scheduled Check-Ins

We check in through the hunt on a set schedule, ready to help with pack-out, a camp move, or a hand if you connect on a bull.

05

Combo & Multi-Species Options

Pair an elk hunt with a pronghorn add-on, or build a full week with lodge stays, meals, and two species on the menu — custom-built around your tags.

06

24/7 Booking

Ask our booking assistant about open drop-camp dates, units, and rates any time — it answers instantly, day or night.

Why Drop Camp

Deep country, on your own terms.

The best elk country in Colorado is miles from the nearest road — and a drop camp is how you get there. We use stock to pack you and a full wall-tent camp into scouted backcountry that day-hunters never reach, then leave you to hunt it self-guided.

You get the access, the solitude, and the price break of a do-it-yourself hunt — backed by our scouting and our packer on call. For experienced, fit hunters, it's the best of both worlds. Want two species or a lodge-based week instead? Our combo packages build a custom itinerary around your tags.

  • Pack-in & pack-out by horse and mule

How It Works

Your drop camp, start to finish

Book it, get packed in, hunt it your way.

1

Reserve your camp

Request dates online or through the booking assistant. A coordinator confirms availability, talks tag strategy, and sends a detailed self-sufficient packing list.

2

We pack you in

Meet our packer at the trailhead. We load the stock, pack you and your gear miles into a scouted camp, get you settled, and hand you the unit intel.

3

Hunt it your way

You hunt self-guided on your own schedule, glassing and stalking the country we set you up in. We check in on the agreed schedule throughout the week.

4

We pack you — and your animal — out

When the hunt's done, we pack camp, you, and any animal you've taken back to the trailhead, meat cooled and clean.

Questions

Drop camp & combo FAQ

What's the difference between a drop camp and a guided hunt?
On a guided hunt your guide is with you in the field every day — glassing, calling, and setting up the stalk. On a drop camp, we pack you and your camp into scouted backcountry, hand you our unit intel, and check in on a schedule, but you hunt self-guided. It's the right call for experienced, fit hunters who want the access and the country without the full-service price.
What experience and fitness do I need?
Drop camps are for experienced hunters who can run their own hunt — field-judge an animal, make an ethical shot, and handle the basics of field care until we arrive. You should be in good mountain shape and comfortable in the backcountry. If you're newer, we'll honestly steer you toward a fully guided hunt instead.
What's included, and what do I bring?
We include the camp set and struck, pack-in and pack-out by stock, our unit scouting, and scheduled check-ins. You bring your weapon and tag, your sleep system and personal kit, food, optics, and your hunting clothing. We send a complete self-sufficient packing list once you book.
Can you build a multi-species or combo package?
Absolutely — that's our combo package. Pair an elk hunt with a pronghorn add-on, or build a full week with lodge stays, meals, and two species on the menu. Tell us which tags you're holding and we'll build the itinerary around them.
How early should I book a drop camp?
Early. Backcountry camps and the best units are limited, and many require draw tags with deadlines early in the year. The sooner you book and talk strategy with us, the better your odds of the right unit and dates. Ask our booking assistant what's still open for the season you want.
